EB-5

What is EB-5?

EB-5, also known by its official title as the Immigrant Investor Program, is a government program that was instituted in 1990 in order to stimulate the economy with the help of foreign investment by starting a new business or by financially assisting a distressed one.

An EB-5 is actually a visa or a way for a foreign citizen to gain entry into the United States, a step before gaining the permanent residency status.  From this point, there are assistance programs to help the recipients of the EB-5 visa, along with their immediate families, gain the permanent residency status, namely the Basic Program and the Regional Center Pilot Program.

How do I get an EB-5?

About 10,000 of these visas are granted annually.

Both of the programs mentioned above have a set minimum of $500,000 that has to be invested into a new company that is in an area that is currently experiencing high unemployment for this process to come to fruition and EB-5 recipients and their families to get permanent residency, and in some cases the minimum is $1,000,000 for investment in more successful and affluent areas.

These new companies must create at least 10 full time jobs.

What are the benefits of participating in the EB-5 program?

Now although the EB-5 program may seem like a very expensive way to get into the United States, there are significant other benefits, aside from your new location in another country.

Immigration into the United States is a very difficult feat to achieve.  Boarders remain tight and entrance is reserved for very few.  The members of the Immigrant Investor Program are a part of the few who have the opportunity to legally immigrate.

Additionally, the EB-5 is also a terrific investment opportunity with significantly less hassle.  In the United States, there are many restrictions and regulations for opening up a new business or heavily investing in an existing one.  In fact, there are even entire government agencies devoted to regulating these investments.

But the EB-5 visa allows you to circumvent and avoid these regulations and hoops by simply adhering to a few easy rules, all while retaining the freedom and opportunity to make vast returns on your investments.  The Immigrant Investor Program allows you to kill two huge and difficult birds with one bureaucratic stone: to legally move to America and to start or invest in a company.
